Ways To Keep Fit In West Yorkshire This New Year

At this point in January, you may be struggling to keep up enthusiasm for your ‘new year, new me’ plans.

According to a recent YouGov survey, getting more exercise is the 2nd most popular new year’s resolution. However, if the standard running routine or squat challenge is not for you, you might want to try something new. Here are some of the best ways to keep fit near you.

Fun Fitness

If you want to try some fitness classes but aren’t enthused by any of the usual ones, check out Kate’s Classes. They describe themselves as ‘a friendly studio offering fun fitness classes you will not find anywhere else in Calderdale.’

Classes include Powerhoop (a modern take on hula-hooping), Rebound (using mini trampolines), Pound (a rock-inspired workout with drumsticks) and Pole fitness (for a full body workout). They offer an environment to try something new and have fun while burning a few calories in the process.

Full class information can be found here.

Outdoor Adventures

If part of your resolution is to get outdoors more, consider the activities on offer at Mixenden Activity Centre. If you fancy yourself as a bit of an adrenaline junkie, take part in climbing, mountain biking or gorge walking.

For something a bit less dangerous but active nonetheless, the centre also offers kayaking, mountain walking and orienteering. Remember, keeping fit can be as simple as taking a nice long stroll! Plus, you will learn new skills and make new friends along the way.

Oxygen Freejumping

Probably one of the most fun and exciting ways to burn those calories is by returning to your childhood ways and jumping! With trampoline parks all over the UK, Oxygen Freejumping provides fitness classes for anyone over the age of 16.

Classes last one hour and are described as ‘incorporating elements of Circuits, Combat & HIIT fitness to test your cardiovascular endurance, strength and tension.’

Your first class is free, so you can have a trial run to see whether you will enjoy it before committing. This type of workout is great for people who may suffer from joint discomfort as it has low impact due to the soft-landing surface.

Alternatively, take the whole family to a freejumping session where you can bounce, climb and make some hilarious memories. This is a chance for you to have free rein of the park for an hour. You may even be able to polish off your somersault skills!

Hit the gym

Let’s not rule out joining the gym to get you moving this year. Xercise4Less have 5 gyms across West Yorkshire, offering over 200 classes per month. And the best part. . . They’re all free with your membership!

There’s also a selection of memberships to choose from, so you can figure out which is best for you to get the most out of your experience and save money. There’s 20% off for students and corporate memberships, so you could be getting full gym access including classes for only £12.79 a month.

If you would rather work out alone, you can make use of the gym equipment or book yourself in with a personal trainer to give you some advice.

We hope you find a fun way to keep fit for the rest of the year!
