Standing some distance away at the end of the garden this tiled roof extension looks rather on the small side. As you get closer and closer you realise that it’s actually surprisingly spacious and has brought extra depth to the house. Access into the extension from the outdoors can be gained via some bi-folding doors and it’s once you cross the threshold that everything begins to make sense. The very lofty ceiling delivers a wealth of headspace and the roof contains windows to ensure that a high volume of sunlight can still get into the structure.
It makes for a very special night time setting too, so that’s why it was imperative that downlighters were fixed into the perimeter ceiling. These downlighters emit a soft light that’s enough to generate a very special after dark atmosphere. The brickwork and tiled roof chosen were equally as important as they needed to be spot on to create the impression that the extension has always been a part of the building. They also help to keep the extension well insulated and stop the weather dictating when it can be used. It’s amazing how something this size can have such a huge impact.
