Change Your Habits And Go Green

We each have a responsibility to protect the earth in which we live and becoming more eco-friendly is much easier and affordable to do than you’d imagine. The installation of green measures such as solar panels is beyond the financial means of many people but you can make a difference in other ways such as doing the following:

Recycle

Too many of us throw away things unnecessarily when they could be given a new lease of life. Old clothes, books, video games, CD’s, furniture etc. are the kind of items you could donate to the local charity shop or pass onto a family member or friend. You could even make money from them in the process. Make sure that you also use your household recycling bin every fortnight.

Switch bulbs

Energy-saving light bulbs do exactly what you would expect of them; save energy. Over a sustained period, an energy-saving light bulb will save you a considerable amount of money compared to the old-style light bulb. They will cost you slightly more to buy, but the savings made will justify their investment.

Lower the thermostat

Your heating system should be utilised less regularly at this time of year but when you need to work it turn down your thermostat by even a degree to making financial savings. Use the timer on your heater too so that it only comes on at the exact times required.

Go paperless

If you buy a newspaper, read books, receive your bank statements through the post, or subscribe to a magazine then revert to digital to help save on paper and only charge your mobile device when you need to.

New windows and doors

Fewer draughts and a reduction in heat loss will also cut the cost of energy bills but this is only achievable if you have energy efficient windows and doors installed by a firm like Visual.
