FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If you have any questions about our replacement doors, you may well find the answer you’re looking for below.
Is every composite door the same?

If you didn’t know otherwise, you would presume so, but that’s not the case. Your standard composite door will have a depth of 44mm and foam filling. A lightweight standard composite door will also have a GRP colour skin (also known as fibreglass).

A Solid Core composite door is much thicker, 48mm in depth, to be precise. It is manufactured from several laminated layers of timber, which makes it much stronger and robust than any foam-filled composite door. Its UPVC skin can be easily colour-matched to the corresponding door frame.

Prices between our many composite doors can vary – speak to a Visual consultant to find the correct composite door for your home.

Extreme Solid Core Door
Can you have different colours on the inside and outside of a door?

Yes, it shouldn’t be an issue to have one colour on the external side of the door frame and a totally different colour on the inside. A good example would be to have a red finish outside and white finish on the inside, but what you do is entirely up to you. For invaluable input on colour, just ask a Visual consultant for their expert advice.

MORE COMMON QUESTIONS

Got some more questions about our doors that need answering? Read on and have a look at some of our most common questions.

How many keys would I be given?

Any door bought from Visual comes with 3 keys as standard. However, if you need some more, just let us know at the time of ordering. Additional keys can also be cut in the future.

Will I be able to use the same key for both doors? (Suited)

It can if you require this. Notify the consultant when you’re confirming your order and they will organise a suited key that works with both doors.

What is Secured by Design?

It’s a Police-backed initiative set up to improve the security of buildings and their accompanying surroundings so that they’re safer places for people to live.

The Police Preferred Specification – SBD’s product-based accreditation scheme – is the recognised standard for products that are designed to deter crime. It includes domestic windows and doors, together with various components e.g., locks and hinges.

Our sister manufacturing company, Conservatory Outlet, which is part of the Conservatory Outlet Group, is a registered member of Secured by Design, so most of our products comply with the relevant guidelines. Communicate any concerns that you have about home security with one of our helpful advisors.

What does a 3-star rated door barrel mean?

The highest rated cylinder around is a 3-star door cylinder, which has been tested to the limit to check that it is ultra-secure. As an added precaution, our door cylinders also include snap-secure technology, featuring a lockdown mode so that the barrel can neither be damaged nor broken.

Can a French door be completely folded back?

You can do exactly that if it has an egress hinge. This will give you the capacity to completely fold it back and maximise your garden view.

What should I choose – sliding patio doors or bi-folds?

There really is no right or wrong answer as it all depends on personal preference. The advantage with a bi-folding door is that it does exactly that, fold as it opens, leaving you with a huge gap. A sliding patio door will appeal to those who value having a practically frame-less view whether the door is open or closed. If it’s a coin toss between the two, a conversation with a Visual consultant could make your decision a lot clearer and easier.

Do you offer finance to help me pay for windows and doors?

We do provide finance for windows and doors if you need some smart money management to secure the item/s you want. Several affordable and simple easy payment finance options (subject to application & status) are available and when you make a finance application, you won’t be kept waiting long to find out if it’s been successful or not. Organising finance can either be done at our showroom, or if it’s more convenient, in your home.

If my finance is approved, what do I do next?

Get in touch with us straight away, if you are arranging your own finance, to let us know. If we have organised finance for you, the finance company will notify us both, and we’ll be in touch to confirm.

What happens if finance is refused?

The first thing is not to panic! You may be refused for any number of reasons, such as if you have moved several times in recent years. We’ll do whatever we can to help, and you could always try a different provider, particularly if one knows you well.

How long will it take to find out if my finance application has been accepted?

You might get an immediate ‘yes’ from the finance company or it could take them a few days to confirm their decision. Don’t be alarmed if there is any delay as there may be a very valid reason for this.

This option allows you a 6 month payment holiday from the date of completion. Pay 10% deposit when you order, and as long as you pay the outstanding balance in full before 6 months has elapsed plus a £29 settlement fee, no interest will be charged. If, after 6 months, this is not convenient, you can pay in 120 monthly instalments at 19.9% APR Representative. *Deferred for 6 months from the date of completion – £29 settlement fee applies if the loan is repaid in full during the deferral period and NO INTEREST will be paid. If the loan is not settled in full within the deferral period, then interest will have accrued from the start of the agreement on any amount still outstanding at the end of the deferral period. Interest will continue to be charged until the agreement is repaid in full. For legal reasons the Representative Example shows interest IF the outstanding balance is NOT paid before the 6 months has elapsed. No security is required on this loan. These calculators are for illustrative purposes only and do not constitute a credit quotation.
