Comparison Site Unveils UK’s Most Popular Home Improvements

Online comparison site Gocompare.com has recently conducted a survey to find out which forms of home improvement have proved most popular over the past three years and installing a kitchen has come out on top.

They also asked recipients which home improvements they were planning to invest in over the next three years and the introduction of a brand new kitchen once again reigned supreme.

The full results are listed below:

New bathroom – 41% 29%
New boiler or central heating – 31% 15%

Garden makeover – 17% 20%

Home insurance spokesman at Gocompare Mark Greening is keen to remind anyone undertaking home improvements to keep their insurer informed at all times:

“Undertaking a home renovation or extension not only helps to improve or increase your living space, but can add to the value of your property and your fixtures and fittings. For example, new kitchen cabinets and worktops are usually installed around a new cooker and other domestic appliances – increasing both the value of the property’s rebuilding costs and household contents. So, whether you are planning an extension, installing a new kitchen or other major renovation, you should consult your home insurer before you start work so that you can review your sum insured and make sure your plans don’t invalidate your cover.”

It’s interesting to see how few people have or intend to invest in solar panels. This can perhaps be explained by the slashing of the Feed in Tariff; the financial rewards of this form of renewable energy are far less than they were.

However, the appetite for extending a home seems as strong as ever. Those looking to add a conservatory or orangery should contact Conservatory, Window and Door Outlet or visit one of our showrooms.
