How To Turn A Conservatory Into A Garden Room

In summer, many old conservatories sit empty for the entire season as they massively overheat, making them uncomfortable places to spend your time. Are you the owner of one of these sorts of conservatories? If so, don’t lose faith in the extension. Just convert it into a garden room to re-establish its original feel.

We would begin by taking out the existing roof and replacing it with a custom-made solid roofing system. Your old glass roof could the main root of the problems you have, and the installation of a solid roof will restore thermal efficiency, add robustness to the design, and give the interior a light and airy ambience.

The new lightweight roof can be comprised of either tiles or slates, finished in a colour reminiscent of the colour of any tiles and slates you have on the roof of your house. This will help to make the conservatory (now garden room) look like a natural extension of the property.

But, before we fit a solid roof, we need to check that any existing windows, doors and base included in the conservatory are strong enough to take the weight of a new roof. If they’re incapable of doing that, they can be replaced and that’s not necessarily a bad thing as it will give the extension a completely modernised appearance, and of course, improve the standard of insulation offered. You could also integrate bi-folding doors to enable you to open the extension out in summer and entice the outdoors indoors – a great garden opening is something that every garden room needs.
