How You Can Stop Your Windows Getting Condensation

As a specialist window supplier, it’s no surprise that so many people come to Visual when they want advice on condensation.

Heritage Windows

It happens an awful lot during the winter as that’s when internal condensation on windows most frequently appears.

We always know what to say as condensation is easily explained – it’s all down excess moisture indoors being unable to escape.

Where does that moisture come from?

It’s generated whenever you e.g. take a hot shower, boil your kettle and put the tumble dryer on.

Unless you have enough ventilation, in the form of extractor fans and vents, this moisture has no means of escape. When it then meets the cold surface of a glass pane, it turns into water droplets.

Some do nothing about it and just ignore condensation – bad idea!

You should always wipe down your windows with a towel to remove the water as it can lead to serious problems i.e. mould, damp, structural damage.

So, sorting out proper ventilation is important, and it will also help if you dry your clothes outside, open some windows when you can etc.

An even better solution is to have energy efficient double-glazed windows fitted.

Compared to single-glazed windows, they have a much warmer profile, which is what’s needed to resist internal condensation.

If your home faces in a certain direction, you may occasionally get external condensation on new energy efficient windows.

This will only usually happen during the months of March/April and October when there’s a high dew point and the outdoor temperature can quickly shift.

It won’t be present for long. Once the sun comes out or there’s a bit of a breeze, the condensation will quickly evaporate.

External condensation is also an indication that an energy efficient window is offering the level of insulation that it ought to, so it should never be viewed as a bad thing.

Because we get a flood of enquiries about condensation, Visual has created a Helpful Guide to help give you a firmer understanding of it.
