The Visual Guide To Energy Efficiency In The Home

The Visual Guide To Energy Efficiency In The Home

An urgent priority for the now former Prime Minister was to do something about the increasing cost of household energy. Liz Truss’ approach was to freeze the energy price cap at £2,500 a year.

Which? the consumer group, has said that the energy cap freeze will help homeowners save £1,000. Although this is a good saving, if you think that the price cap was around £1,300 just over a year ago, it still means that many householders will be paying far more for energy than they can afford to.

It’s a bit of a nightmare with winter coming.

Help with energy can be gained from places like Citizen’s Advice, and Visual also has some advice of its own to try and bring down the cost of your bills.

Cut your showering time to 5 minutes

Why specifically 5 minutes? For two reasons. The first is that 5 minutes is more than sufficient time to shower yourself clean, and 5 minutes is also the recommended length of showering time by health experts.

Setting a stopwatch the second that you step into a shower is a good way of making sure that you don’t go over the time limit and waste valuable energy.

Dry clothes outside, not inside

It doesn’t make sense to use your radiators or tumble dryer to dry your wet clothing when the weather outside is dry and warm enough to do it for you.

There will almost certainly be the odd autumn and winter day when you can peg out some washing, and this will also prevent a buildup of moisture in your house, which can occur from putting clothes on radiators and using drying appliances. It’s this moisture that causes condensation on windows.
