What To Do When Measuring Up For New Windows And Doors

Visual is still very much open for business if you are contemplating ordering new windows and doors for your home so that they can be fitted when the restrictions are lifted.

White Bow Windows

For the safety of you, our team and the country as a whole, it’s not currently possible for us to send a member of our fitting team to measure up in preparation for the final installation. We hope that it won’t be long until we are permitted to make home visits again.

It’s not a massive problem though if you have a tape measure at home as you can measure your windows and doors and supply us with the relevant sizes.

Don’t worry if the measurements prove to be slightly off. We just need a rough idea of what window and door sizes are required so that we can start making them. More precise measurements will be taken at a safer time by a Visual fitter.

Here’s what you need to do, as well as what you need to think about before purchasing new windows and doors:

  • We need to know both the width and height of your windows in millimetres, centimetres or inches.
  • To measure the width and height, do it from brick-to-brick.
  • Make a choice between UPVC or aluminium windows.
  • Make a choice of window style.
  • Happy with your current window style? Take a picture of your current windows for us to have a look at.
  • Want a change of window style and seen a window style you like? Share a photo of the style you’ve fallen for.

  • We need to know both the width and height of your door in either metric or imperial units.
  • To measure the width, do it brick-to-brick, and for the height, do it brick-to-floor.
  • We need to know if you want your new door to open inwards or outwards.
  • Inform us if your current door is hinged on the left or right when you look at it from the outside.
  • Make a choice between a UPVC, aluminium, composite or solid core door.

You can always give us a call if you need someone to talk you through how to do it and help you make the right choice. Our contact options are all available here.
