Why You Should Buy A Home Extension For This Summer Now

Who could have predicted that temperatures at the end of February would be so high and make West Yorkshire feel as though it was already basking in a beautifully warm summer?

Large Modern Orangery with Grey Bi-Folds

Nobody saw it coming and what it may have done is got you excited about the real arrival of summer and thinking of extending your home in time for it. We know from experience just how wonderful it is spending time inside one of our conservatories or orangeries during the summer months as they offer incredible thermal efficiency.

But to make that dream a reality, you need to be ordering your extension pronto, otherwise ownership of either extension will likely remain a pipedream, for this summer at least.

We say that as there’s a lot of work to be done to make the finished design all come together…

The design needs preparing properly

Remember that the extension will be a permanent part of your home and it needs to blend in effortlessly with the building’s character as you don’t want an extension that looks out of place.

Visual won’t let that happen as we will be there to guide you through everything, making sure that the style, coloured finish and accessories you choose are right – you won’t believe how many options there are. We will also carry out a survey at your house where we will measure up ahead of the installation and also determine the best positioning of the structure.

You will be shown a 3D computerised version of the proposed extension and can tinker with the design as much as you want.

It may need planning permission

Most conservatories and orangeries comply with planning laws and are considered to be Permitted Developments with no application for planning permission necessary – information about Permitted Developments can be found here.

When an extension doesn’t enjoy Permitted Development Rights, a planning application has to be completed and submitted to the relevant local authority who will decide if it satisfies planning laws. You can expect a response from them within 8-13 weeks, depending on how complex the plans are. If they turn the plans down, you can take on-board their feedback and amend the design accordingly ahead of submitting a further application. Planning permission can really slow down a project, so keep this in mind.

You need to inject your personality into it

Just as you would when moving into a new home, you should try and make the extension your own and you can do that via your choice of colour scheme, furniture and soft furnishings.

Try to select a colour that will endure the passage of time and not leave your extension looking dated in a short space of time.

You can get inspiration for your new extension on our Living Spaces page which is full of completed installations from Visual.
