How To Keep Those Energy Bills Affordable

When you are lacking in energy and in need of a pick me up to refresh your body and mind there is nothing like having a nice long shower.

It is very easy though to spend more time in the shower than you intended which will impact on energy bills.

Spending even a minute or two less showering yourself can help you save a little bit of money on energy, just one of many energy-saving tips you can put into practice this winter.

Here are some others:

1. Whilst waiting for tap water to turn hot, fill some water bottles with any surplus cold water and pop them in the fridge for future use.
2. Wear an extra layer of clothing in the house and add an extra sheet to your bed to keep warm when sleeping.
3. Stop leaving any lights on when your house is empty and invest in a good burglar alarm instead.
4. Close your curtains and blinds as soon as it goes dark to keep any heat produced by your boiler trapped inside.
5. Buy a more energy efficient boiler and get it serviced annually to prevent any future breakdowns.
6. Pull the plug on any mobile devices as soon as they’re charged as overcharging them costs you money.
7. Upgrade appliances e.g. television, fridge, freezer, kettle etc. for those carrying an A-C energy rating.
8. Replace any traditional light bulbs for energy-saving bulbs as collectively they will save you money.
9. Resist the temptation to use the standby button on the remote control for your television and switch it off properly.
10. Only fill the kettle with as much water as you need when making a cup of tea or coffee to avoid over boiling.

Our biggest tip? Buy new replacement energy efficient windows and doors from Visual to banish draughts and heat loss for good.
